Hard Water Stains

These deposits are formed by minerals like calcium and magnesium that sit on the surface of the glass and can be removed. The key is maintaining a relatively low pH (below 9). When the pH stays acidic, the minerals stay on the surface and are easy to clean.
However, if the glass becomes too alkaline (high pH), it can progress to be more of an issue where cleaning can no longer remove the stains.
At this point, the glass starts to become etched, leading to the formation of tiny pits. Sodium and calcium ions from the water then bond to the surface, creating deeper damage known as etching. Once etching occurs, simply cleaning is no longer enough—the glass needs to be polished in the early stages.
Long-term damage may need the glass to be replaced, as polishing may not restore long-term damage.
